In January 2024, we had the honour of enriching the collection of the Kunovice Aviation Museum by donating a Cessna 402B Utiliner aircraft, registered as OK-GEO, in its aerial survey configuration.
The aircraft was manufactured in 1975 in the USA and operated in Germany until the early 2000s, where it was used for daily cargo flights between Frankfurt and the UK. In 2002, it was purchased by GEODIS and converted into a photogrammetric aircraft equipped with two camera ports for simultaneous real-time data collection from two sensors. It typically carried a mapping-grade analog/digital camera and a laser scanner. The aircraft was further modified with additional fuel tanks to extend its range and flight endurance.
OK-GEO served aerial survey missions until 2015. It flew not only across the Czech Republic but over much of Europe and played a significant role in digital mapping. Toward the end of its operational life, it could no longer accommodate the large optics of modern mapping cameras and was eventually decommissioned and used for spare parts.
At the museum, you can explore the evolution of aerial survey aircraft – including the Avia Il-14 FG, a much older and larger plane designed for similar purposes.
We warmly invite you to visit the Kunovice Aviation Museum, where you can view this historic photogrammetric aircraft and many other fascinating exhibits, such as the Nagano Express. And if you bring children along, they can “fly” in pedal-powered airplanes!
